For many years we had used the water in the well for a simple water pot feature. But in 2007 we felt that we could use this wonderful source better and acting on this we created the small pond and stream. This is fed by spring water via a pump in the well and as a result of this, the water keeps crystal clear all year. The pond is home to lots of wildlife and we have introduced red comet goldfish and comet shubunkin. In our deeds it states that in times of extreme drought local farmers may bring their cattle to our well. (Can you imagine the scene!?)
Next to the pond on the old washhouse wall is a display of old tools. When our son Harry was young he loved going to local boot sales. This is where Peter started to collect old tools. The tools were originally going to be used to make the fence between us and Jean... But we soon realised it was going to be too dangerous with pitchforks, forks and spades. (I think the scythe was the last straw. - P) Instead, we had an empty trellis on the old washhouse wall but could not grow anything on it as it would encroach on the path up the garden. Thus one hot sunny day about eight years ago Peter arranged the tools on the trellis and secured them with galvanised wire - a far safer arrangement than the original fence plan. At Christmas, seasonal foliage is arranged around the tools with timed lighting complimenting the look.
